The Successful Single Mom Blog

I have been incredibly disappointed with a certain situation recently. Its been going on for a few weeks now and I've found myself just trying to shake it off, work through it, even tried to ignore it.

None of these worked and every time I thought about the situation, my blood pressure spiked. Maybe you can relate? Are you dealing with any challenging situations in your life right now? Maybe I can help you in the same way I helped myself.

I decided to do what I know worked, and I pulled out my coach hat (a.k.a., my journal) and I started asking myself some questions.

"What's great about this?"
"What's my ownership/responsibility in the situation?"
"What's the lesson? What am I supposed to be getting?"
"What can I do to make it better? The way I want it? Tolerable?"

"What do I want to happen next and what can I do to make it happen?"

As I started anwering these questions, I surrendered to the situation. It is what it is. I could continue to react and feel bad or respond and feel good. I could look backwards and feel frustrated or look forward and feel a sense of positive expectation. All my choice.

As you are dealing with challenges and frustrations, ask yourself some great questions. Surrender to the situation, realizing that it is what it is and you can be happy anyway. Then go on about the business of making it ~ or what you can ~ the way you want it.

Once you've created your plan, take a deep breath! Congratulations is in order just for following through and taking the time to envision your future!

Take a moment to breathe, relax and just enjoy this moment. You are in a moment of creation! Whoo hoo!

Here's the truth: you've gotten to today, whether you had a plan or not. You might like where you are now, or not. This is I know for sure: there's always another level of our mental, spiritual and inner-self development. You may not want more (or maybe you do), and I do know you want the best you can get for your kids and yourself. One of the easiest ways to get there from here is to have a plan and work that plan!

Mental preparation is one of the key elements in a well-executed 100-day Plan. Take about 30 minutes, pull out your plan and review your top 3 goals. Write a paragraph for each goal answering the following:

  • I must achieve this goal because:
  • What I will get from achieving this goal:
  • What will I give up to achieve this goal:
  • Why is this goal worth what I will get and give up:
  • I'm worthy of achieving this goal because:
  • I will feel ______ when I achieve this goal!
  • I will reward myself with  _________ when I achieve this goal.

Once you complete these questions, attach them to your 100-Day Plan and submit them to me (email: honoree-at-corpron-dot-com or call my office for my fax number). One lucky winner will receive free 1-on-1 coaching with me for 100 days (that's 8 20-30 minute sessions ~ a value of $7500), as well as a copy of The Successful Single Mom Cooks cookbook when its released this Fall. Get started now ... submissions must be made by Thursday, April 30th. The winner will be chosen (when else?) on Mother's Day.

Good luck! Here's to your single mom success!

My heart goes out to the single moms who are experiencing their darkest hours right now. Lori, my assistant and one of the moms I coached in the 100-Day Transformation Program, took a call from just such a beautiful soul, one of my readers, a couple of days ago.

I have to say I have been there!! This mom is looking for ways to support her family of two (herself and her daughter) that wouldn't be a minimum wage situation or require a certification or additional education. While I have a few suggestions (work at home doing a network marketing business, start your own business, get creative and stay open to the possibilities), what I can speak to is where single moms have to be mentally in order to create success ... and even be open having opportunities come to them!

When I look back over the toughest times I have been through in my life, it was in the moments I was ready to give up that I dug deep, went back to the fundamentals (more on that shortly), checked my attitude and pulled up my skirt (even though I didn't want to) and decided the situation I was in was not going to defeat me, get the best of me or be the end of me.

I found myself in precisely that place in October 2007. I was in the midst of a tough situation with my daughter at the heart of it. The mama lion in me was on full alert ~ and I was exhausted and at the end of my rope. I had one last good cry, then went into my journals, motivationals CDs and other resouces that had worked for me in the past and pressed the reset button.

If you are experiencing a tough time right now, reflect back on what has worked for you in the past. Who and what can you reach out to for support? Who can you truly depend on to give you words of encouragement, a hug or an ass-kicking right when you need it (and know which one you need)? Make the decision that you determine what happens, you can create new levels of success, joy and happines for yourself, and you will do just that, starting right now.

When you do, you will experience a breakthrough. Sometimes you must get to the darkest point in order to be open to making the changes that need to be made so you can get where you really want to go.

If this resonates with you, leave your thoughts. Ask for what you need. Dream a bigger dream. Believe in yourself. Go for it! I know you can do it.

Hope and intention are two important aspects of creating success, and they are absolutely necessary. Without them, you most likely won't be successful (but you could get lucky). Just having hope and setting your intention aren't enough, though. You must have a plan. Without a plan there's no way you're going to be as successful as you want to be.

When I was 19 years old, I recognized that if I wanted to be successful, I needed to create a plan that would work for me. One that would keep me motivated in times when I didn't feel incredibly motivated (which was more often than I would have liked). The plan I created for me, which has evolved over the years, has a duration of 100 days and eight components: vision, purpose, 3 goals, empowering descriptors, three areas of focus, resources, next steps, and the dates (start date and end date). Here's the breakdown:

Dates: This is Day 1 through Day 100.

100-Day Vision: This is your “what.” What do you want to accomplish, bring to fruition, achieve over the next 100 days.

100-Day Purpose:  This is your “why.” What would accomplishing your objectives give you, provide for you, help you to achieve down the road?

Top 3 Goals: The 3 most important things you wish to accomplish during your STMA™. Make them SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, (at least a little) Risky, and Time-sensitive. The deadline for these goals is, of course, your 100th Day.

Empowering Descriptors: This is the fun part – give yourself a reputation to live up to! Use phrases that turn you on and rev you up! My empowering descriptors include: Marketing Master! Queen of Manifestation! Best Mom Ever!

Three areas of focus: These are the three areas of your business and life you want to focus on during the Program. They could include: marketing, advertising, weight loss (or gain), positioning, client development, recruiting, etc.

Resources: These are the people and things you can rely on to shorten your success cycle – they would include your coach, other single moms, books, seminars, music, mentors, CD programs, etc.

Next Steps: This is your “data dump.” Get out of your head and on paper every single thing that needs to get done, regardless of whether or not it (a) has anything to do with your STMA™ and (b) has to be done by you (or right now you think it does). These items could include cleaning out your car, buying cat food or sending a card to your mom. If you’re carrying it around in your head, it’s adding to your stress level and making you less effective. Take your list and put the items in order of importance. Your items will fall into one of four categories: Do, Delegate, Delay or Dump. We will work through the list together. (Note well: This list is not limited to the space provided.)

You can download a *FREE* copy of this plan on the Resources page of this website. Spend a couple of hours working on your plan and then check back soon for what happens next ... *hint: I will be doing a giveaway as part of what happens next!

Hi everyone!

My name is Lori, yes Lori ~ let me clarify. Honoree was gracious to change my and my sons name in The Successful Single Mom book to protect the innocent. (ha ha) I have quite the dry sense of humor as you will see.

Okay here goes ... not my shining moment being on public assistance at 48 years old after spending the last 20 years in what I like to say was a successful carreer in the beauty industry. After my divorce and being a single mom and really the only family my son has, I decided to walk away from a job that was becoming very corporate and not so kid friendly. I wanted to try and make a go of it, it being self employed. I walked away from "it all," moved in with the folks, and spent the last 9 months learning a lot about myself and making no money. However, I was there for my son!!

My parents recently decided to move back to Canada, and that left me with no income and soon no home! So there ya go! I am now moving in a new direction, "Ok, here we go!" I called Honoree and she hired me back as her personal assistant and made a call to one of her clients. Within two days I had not one but two jobs, literally in the blink of an eye. My second job living in an amazing apt in a georgeous community in exchange for being on call for a single mom doctor at night if she has to deliver a baby. Is that "luck?" I think not! I have learned a lot in the last year and participating in the single moms program helped me immensley to go inward and to set goals to be held accountable. I really liked the magic and miracles idea!!!!!

Guess what? I have huge faith and the way I looked at it from where I was sitting at this stae of the game I had nothing to lose! Whoops, my bad, already lost it!! So I began to practice this "program" like my life depended on it because it did I practice going inward daily using all the tools laid at my feet and at the end of the day the lesson here is no shame in my game! My attitude won magic and miracles over and over ...

I tell you what ~ Honoree is up to big and exciting things! She lives this program in her daily life like no one I've seen!!! So stay tuned, all my fellow single mom friends, we're up to nothing but magic and miracles in this neck of the woods.........
